Passion from the Births of Stars: Astrology of 8/15 – 8/21

This week Mercury stations direct in Leo, and Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces form their third and last trine in these signs until more than 600 years from now. From the perspective of these planetary cycles that are longer than human lives, it can be awe-inspiring to reflect on how we do exist in this current moment and are getting to directly experience alignments that do not come around every lifetime.

So that also means that this moment has a rarefied quality to it – this Jupiter in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces transit. We said the eclipses were emotional, but it may be these two as well! For all of our personal, subjective experiences, our passions and devastations, are not just subjective dramas of humans but are also the descendants of the birth of stars, the raw energies and powers of the cosmos itself continuing to pulse through us. Scorpio is in touch with primordial depths and Neptune is connected to our memories of union and non-differentiation; the womb, timelessness. Put together – those are a lot of deep themes, and not always ones that are easy to translate or understand.

Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces are both alignments that peer into the mystery; and if we should find a deeper connection between ourselves and the Universe around us we find that deep space, birthing stars, and unexplored distances exist internally, too.

The vibe with this trine in water signs can be a little soupy — cosmic soupy — but still, perhaps disorienting with waves of raw feeling. It can be a good reminder at this time that while the Western mind likes order and logic and reason, there are experiences to be had here that defy reason or are not of reason’s realm at all. Our openness to explore the unknown, without having to understand it, is a portal to expansion.

Mercury’s stationing direct in Leo within all of this can involve a synchronicity where if we are heart-centered, the universe will reveal different mysteries to us accordingly.

Here’s our week:

August 18, 2018

Mercury stations direct in 11 Leo: 9:24 PM PDT

Mercury will leave retrograde shadow on September 1, 2018 at 10:33 PM PDT. Mercury has recently crossed the Sun and now will station on the North Node in Leo and in square aspect to Jupiter in Scorpio. Mercury is also sextile Venus in Libra.

  • We’ve just got a little longer with the lunar nodes in Aquarius and Leo, until November 2018 (and beginning May 2017) – the evolution has been around moving into a heart-centered, involved, creative, and playful relationship to life as opposed to watching from the outside and taking ourselves out of the equation.

  • This transit can correspond with transformations of thought – choosing brighter thoughts and a more playful perspective after feeling mental tension. With this playful Mercury in Leo in confrontational aspect to depth-expanding, underworld-revealing Jupiter in Scorpio we have these different perspectives grinding against each other.

  • Watch for messages that arise internally or in your field about warmth, generosity, and radiance. A brightness here is coming into focus with Mercury’s station.

  • Vulnerability is also a Leo theme, relating to a generosity of spirit and sharing (sharing one’s internal reality, sharing love and praise and validation of others) and may be a relevant theme during this station.

  • Leo frustration relates to not feeling seen or recognized or given the stage to display one’s gifts, despite being talented. An impulse can be to just perform more, become better – but take the cue from Venus in Libra sextile that more headway can be found just by forming connections with people and recognizing others. Often it is reciprocal.

Jupiter in 15 Scorpio trine Neptune in 15 Pisces: 12:44 AM PDT

(Image: Helen Mask)

This alignment of Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces has exacted twice this cycle – on December 2, 2017 and May 25, 2018. This day is the last time this alignment exacts in these signs until 2669. The last time was in 1851, the year of the publication of Moby Dick, a tale of revenge and obsession (Scorpio traits) at sea (Pisces).

  • Jupiter in Scorpio adds expansion and candor to hidden places; it brings us treasure from the underworld. #MeToo broke out days after Jupiter entered Scorpio. #MeToo was not pointing out new patterns in human interactions. Sexual abuse was already occurring but it was Jupiter’s entrance into the sign of Scorpio that heralded an eruption of candid conversation about it. Additionally, this event marked transformations in cultural values. While not content that these violations happen in our culture to begin with, many considered this movement to be a gift in that it was pressing the collective to change rather than to maintain business as usual.

  • On a microcosmic level, similar dynamics have been unfolding for individuals – when a truth/insight becomes so vivid and so intense that it can no longer be repressed, transformation of some kind is inevitable.

  • Jupiter is normally considered an optimistic, lucky, and high-spirited planet, and the quality of Jupiter in the sign of Scorpio offers an interesting contrast. Scorpio relates to our explorations of the depths, of taboo, of sexuality and desire, the hidden/secret/occult, and our deepest attachments, values, and the complexes we have to ‘keep’ the things we desire or to not be abandoned, manipulation, power games and the like. Scorpio involves a process of death and rebirth, of continual transformation and the discovery and embodiment of true power. As Scorpio relates to the core energy underlying things, the roots, and the underworld, Jupiter’s travels through the sign of Scorpio have been like a descent.

  • With Neptune, a planet of Source and fantasy alike… we enter into a world where things are not as they seem; where we are not sure which state is the altered state (our consciousness normally? Our industrial meta-narratives about the earth and how to be in relationship to the earth? A mystical relationship to the earth and directly connecting with nature? When we are dreaming? When we are watching a film? When we have a profound spiritual vision? When we are intoxicated?). Here, via Neptune, lucidity, profound mysticism, delusion, and psychosis emerge from the same archetype. We are considering an ultimate reality and all of the veils that obscure ultimate reality but are yet, generated by the Source/reality of all things. Veils lift from time to time, either dissolving our unnecessary suffering or dissolving visions/dreams we have invested quite a lot in. So Neptune brings profound healing and disillusionment alike.

  • Both Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces hold vibrations of peering into the mystery; discovering secrets of the Universe. This transit is highly mystical and can relate to spiritual breakthroughs. As always with breakthroughs, there is something being broken through and what is being broken through can peak in our awareness before a resolution is met.

  • This alignment can speak to the harmony that exists between both knowing one’s desire and being willing to invest deeply into it – with the willingness to surrender, to give up, to be disillusioned, to let go, and perhaps most importantly – to be willing to shift course with the changing winds and seas and access a deeper flow than the limitations of the current ego. This harmony can also be about discovering deeper layers (or veils!) of what a personal desire is all about. Being invested, and also non-attached, can allows us to perceive unique opportunities that we would overlook if we were too fixated.

  • Both of these planets may be a reminder to us that the bigger picture about what life is and what the universe is is a horizon that recedes further and further into the distance the more we get to know it. (And, it can long be a collapsed, finite box if we choose to close off.) Though we go through reversals, disappointments and difficult times, there is a (often) secret, bigger mystery at play. A gift of this transit may be increased trust in the Universe and the willingness to still have experiences – to continually uncover more of the mystery through our engagement with it.

Thank you for meditating on the planets with me this week! I hope you are feeling blessed these days. Let me know how you’re doing in the comments, if you feel your spiritual life has expanded or not? What have been your breakthroughs or are still feeling stuck?

I have definitely been feeling a shift in my spiritual side of life. A drive to do more consistent soul work has been a big energetic theme. Also, a push to have greater compassion for myself, and an increased desire to explore my daily routines and choices. My closest people have been bringing out some of my least flattering faces. Tough to face, too big to ignore- Jupiter in Scorpio, indeed. Thank goodness for that Piscean compassion!

There is a depth and beauty to the sharpness, which is reality changing; and an awareness of the choice to go with nature and the flow and be cared for a little better, or go my own way and feel the separation and comfortable misery of using the same crutches that stunt the healing. Deep stuff.
