Opening to Possibility: Astrology of 11/14 – 11/20

Have you felt the brightness of Jupiter in his home sign, Sagittarius? This week Mars also leaves Aquarius, where it had been for a long amount of time due to Mars’ retrograde over the summer. Mars enters Pisces and enters into a square with Jupiter in Sagittarius. This contact between Mars and Jupiter can animate our spiritual fire, expand our will to dream and visualize positive futures, and energize our enthusiasm to take on challenges with a positive attitude.

Jupiter brings us in touch with faith and optimism, forces in our experience which do have the power to alter our reality. With proactive hope for the future and envisioning greater possibilities, we actually increase the likelihood that we will meet those positive futures. We also expand and empower ourselves emotionally, giving ourselves the brightness to see our challenges with a more compassionate attitude.

Take the time while Mars is in Pisces and Jupiter in Sagittarius to energize your dream life and highly inspired concepts like world peace and climate peace, such as by practicing visualization meditations where you envision your ideal life and the ideal life of the planet and just how it will feel when it is real; and go ahead and feel that it is already real (basic law of attraction work here). One of my favorite books that I’ve revisited lately and that you might find helpful is Spiritual Growth: Being Your Higher Self by Sanaya Roman.

I’m not advocating that we simply escape into our fantasy lives. Just that we dare to dream & then take inspired actions based on those dreams… 🙂

You may already be feeling the flush of enthusiasm and excitement, but if you’re not already, this is a great sky for diving in!

Yes, Mercury goes retrograde (right after Venus goes direct!) on November 16. Despite usually spoken about tech difficulties or re-routes (which are often just calls to take the scenic route), take note of the opportunity within this transit to reconsider your worldview and beliefs, especially the ones that determine the possibilities you see as available to you.

Come study astrology with me in January to learn about astrology from the perspective of the soul – actually gain a way of reading natal charts (whether you are new or seasoned as an astrologer) that allows you to gain perspective on where a soul is coming from and where a soul is headed in this particular incarnation. What have you brought into this life from the past, and how is it supporting and/or hindering you? These are questions we actually can find insights on, in your own chart and in reading for others! I’d love to have you in my Evolutionary Astrology Intensive course coming up. Not only is the class packed with information, but it’s also a chance to interact with me and a group of likeminds. I’ll be here to answer your questions and help guide you as you learn this profound school of astrology. Gaining an understanding of the archetypes you are working with most pointedly in this life, as well as their difficulties and most empowered expressions, can really change our life. It did for me, which is why I am so passionate about astrology and practice it every day. I’ve created this course to be as interactive as it is to help you settle any confusion you feel about the study of astrology and give you the support and structure to really focus and deepen your study. Mars in 29 Aquarius sextile Uranus in 29 Aries: 2:31 AM PDT

Mars in Aquarius forms an exact aspect to Uranus just before changing signs into Pisces. Here are some potential themes.

  • This is a time where sudden changes, surprises or disruptions in our life can also serve as calls to action to do something in an entirely new way. Uranus in Aries can shake things up via destruction. Symbolically Aries relates to fires which clear the area for new growth. Rather than having a tactful or balanced approach, Aries can really scorch. With destruction comes opportunity for the new, since the old has been cleared.

  • Mars and Uranus are in mutual reception here (each are in each other’s rulership, in modern astrological terms). So you might look at it that these planetary functions are supporting each other: revolution and action, change and implementation, ingenuity and willpower.

First Quarter Moon in 23 Aquarius: 7:54 AM PDT

Mars is conjunct the Moon and square the Sun during this alignment. Juno in Taurus opposes the Sun and creates a T-square to the Moon.

  • Energetically, dynamism is created in our personal storylines that we are living out as we pursue a higher vantage point from which to consider our current desires and entanglements. So rather than just being in the intensity, stepping out for a moment to get a higher view. This can apply to any intense emotional frequency which we find ourselves in, suffering or happiness alike.

  • With this kind of detachment comes power. For example, if you realize that you can change how you feel in your body by trying on different thoughts (even if such thoughts are imaginary, like pretending to be relaxed or happy and really getting into character), then it becomes apparent that you have more agency to steer your vibrational field than if you were simply reacting to events and stimuli.

  • See if there is an area in your life where you are more fixed in your stance and vision. This is not necessarily bad – say you have a dream you are intent on realizing. You still might need to get outside of your own patterns to gain a fresh perspective on how you are going to bring this dream into creation. Same for negative patterns. If you want to stop suffering in a particular way, you will need new insights.

  • The connection between Scorpio and Aquarius can relate to the kind of intimacy we experience in the form of high resonance – like having a really electric conversation, or finding information that really sparks your aliveness through reading, research, etc. Scorpio and Aquarius together can foster highly intelligent intimacy, where depth and complexity combines with radical connectivity.

Mars enters Pisces: 3:21 PM PDT

Mars will be in Pisces until December 31, 2018 – so for the rest of this year! And Mars will form dynamic contacts to both Jupiter and Neptune during this time, the traditional and modern planetary rulers of Pisces.

I’ve written about Mars in Pisces/Mars in the 12th house as natal positions on my biog several times. You might find these ideas interesting and relevant during this time if you read them as energies that are happening now in the collective. You can find those articles in my Mars archive here.

  • When Mars is in Pisces, our will is empowered through spiritual activity and we may be more susceptible to forms of zealotry or delusion (which however, we are very animated by). Feeling spiritual fire is a good thing – we just want to tune in to lucidity at the highest degree that we can. The challenge of Mars in Pisces is to cut through illusions and the fog and to align with the energy streams that already exist in the Universe – things like beauty, truth, and love. Whether or not we are actively dreaming and fantasizing, we are typically operating with various delusions or veils. Mars brings energy to cut through these. (Or likewise, to further animate them… take heed.)

  • The Mars in Pisces energy can be very damp or heighten feelings of lostness, dissolution, despair, etc – the more unpleasant domains of Pisces brought out with Martian force. If this is occurring it can be a call to redirect one’s ship (as it were… in these Piscean seas) to where currents and winds are creating harmony and empowering momentum and progression.

  • A fantasy that exists in Piscean reality is that a particular thing, event, person, etc. might provide satisfaction forever. But Pisces is a mutable sign, and its meant to adapt to change. If we cathect (invest emotional and mental energy) to something and lose sight of the Source, we may also lose sight of our direction and compass and find ourselves washed out.

  • Mars in Pisces brings us energy to live simultaneously on land and sea, or one foot in fantasy and one foot in reality. Pisces is the sign of the dreamer, Mars is of action. We bring our dreams to life by having both the faculty to dream and the faculty to anchor those dreams into mundane reality. The challenge and opportunity with Mars in Pisces is to live in both realms and to find a harmony between them; to practice, not only feel, deep and transcendent love.

Venus in 25 Libra stations direct: 3:51 AM PDT

(Image: Láng Shìníng)

This is a significant event in our current Venus retrograde season! Venus will not leave retrograde shadow until December 17, but you may still notice some shift in energy.

  • Venus originally went retrograde in the sign of Scorpio, which could have brought us into themes around the death or recycling of various forms of love in our life – relationships ending or shifting, or a transformation in our own values or of another which would precipitate a shift in relationship. Those sensitive to this transit have been through shifts in their values or love life.

  • Venus in Libra can teach us the beauty of contrast, and how we can give space to others to be themselves and leave space for us to be ourselves, rather than engaging in power dynamics in which one person’s ideals consume and transform the other. Where there is difference there is room for cooperation, mediation, and compromise, which are Libran themes. Have you learned more to respect others differences this season?

  • To quote Colin Bedell (in the Libra section of his new book A Little Bit of Astrology), “A Libra in love is ordained to teach us how romance is an art and intellectual technique”. This is a good time to remember that love is not always something that comes naturally. Love is innate and emotionally available to us, but the practice of love is an intellectual art and skillset. If you are a person who struggles with love and relationship, or you find struggles cropping up in your relational life, chances are there is some wise person, therapist, self-help book, or teaching about love that addresses what you are experiencing. Expose yourself to ideas and teachings about love that are adding to the sophistication of love in your life.

Mercury in 13 Sagittarius stations retrograde: 6:33 PM PDT

(Image: Evgeny Hontor)

Mercury stations retrograde just before it would have exacted a square to Neptune in Pisces (its just seconds of a degree away). Mercury will be retrograde until December 6, 2018. Mercury leaves Sagittarius and retrogrades into Scorpio on December 1, 2018, and will return to Sagittarius December 12.

  • While the technical dysfunctions, difficulty with navigation, or unintended re-routes are commonly highlighted facets of Mercury retrograde, I would invite us to tune into the mystical and synchronistic dimension of Mercury retrograde which is two-fold: 1) a more playful atmosphere opens up where we are presented with opportunities to look at things in a new way, take a different mental path and 2) certain messages come to us with heightened synchronicity and frequency, like a riddle from the Universe to contemplate and engage with.

  • At the heart of the Mercury retrograde when Mercury is conjunct the Sun in Sagittarius, the pair will also be conjunct Jupiter in Sagittarius. This energy is really lively! It is a time we may feel more animated, inspired and jovial. Or if you don’t find yourself in that space, the energy is certainly there to support it if you should like to seek it.

  • We might consider at this time how freely we allow ourselves to share our truth and speak our mind, and how our Universe expands when we verbalize truth. It doesn’t mean our perception of truth can’t change as it would be healthy for it to evolve, but it’s more about what kinds of connections are allowed to occur when we speak authentically.

Mars in 2 Pisces square Jupiter in 2 Sagittarius: 6:30 PM PDT

  • When Jupiter contacts Mars, our energy levels and our enthusiasm can be magnified. This grants us the energy to take on challenges or to see challenges in a more optimistic light. It also is like the energy of enjoying working out or hiking, enjoying working up a sweat, and feeling all of the endorphins of activity.

  • Specifically in this alignment, we might feel that we are open to new possibilities and sense that there are more possibilities than we can even yet imagine. In order to contact these new possibilities, we might want to energize our spiritual life. Dreaming, fantasy, and visualization are some ways to directly experience new possibility. Prayer, and asking for guidance that is beyond us, is also a way to experience new possibility.
