New Moon in Virgo: Astrology of 8/28 – 9/3

Get ready for the most VIRGOAN forecast – all this week’s exact transits (which there are many) involve a planet in Virgo.*

But what does it all mean, all this Virgo energy?! It may mean that we feel overwhelmed at times, by how much there is to do or how disorganized or chaotic things may feel. It may also mean that we feel energized and feel a boost in self-esteem when we get into our process – when we make those lists, or start eating cleaner, or clear the clutter off our desk or desktop, or take the time to notice and edit our thoughts and trade out the self-reprimand for kindness. With Virgo it’s not really about arriving at the destination or completion – it’s moreso how zen we can get with a process at hand, getting into deeper presence with what’s right in front of our noses. When we inhabit the process fully instead of sweeping over it and hoping to just get it over with, we end up gaining the results that match the vibrational quality of our intimacy with all the micro-moments we seeded love and attention into.

What is “the process”? It depends on you, but it can be things like a health journey, a self-improvement project, the development of a professional/entrepreneurial offering, healing a particular trauma, uncovering and rewriting subconscious blocks around money or relationship, finding meaning and healing through our grief, and so on. Essentially a process is complex and multifaceted and divisible into many small tasks. A process brings us in touch with a whole lot of fears, excuses, anxieties, mistakes, discoveries, growth points, triumphs, and a mix of “good” and “bad” days depending on our outlook. And while some processes are about growth and expansion, still others may be about letting go or even death (of part of the self, or the incarnate self at the end of life). Processes are highly unique to what is needed in the particular situation, and they are dynamic and shifting.

*In the spirit of Virgo I’ll get specific and share what I mean by “exact” transit. There are more transits operating in the sky at any given moment than “exact” ones – the exact ones are just the ones that hit a particular number of degrees in angle apart. For example, Jupiter is square Neptune right now and Saturn is conjunct Pluto, but they are are some degrees apart from exact harmonic angles. I let those background transits inform my writing as I’m aiming to name active themes arising in our consciousness and experience. Writing directly about exact transits is one of the most efficient ways I can share the current astrology with you, though sometimes I will write additional articles about longer-acting transits. In fact, I am working on one about the Saturn-Pluto conjunction for you too, so stay tuned. It will be offered to the mailing list subscribers only. If you would like to receive these weekly forecasts to your inbox and the Saturn-Pluto article when it’s available, sign up for my mailing list here. You’ll also be the first to know when my online astrology courses are open for enrollment.

Welcome back! In case this is your first time here, I’m Sabrina Monarch and I’m a soul-centered astrologer. I love providing perspectives on the opportunities of transits and putting into words what the vibe may feel like at this moment in time, to support you on your path & open a dialogue between us and the cosmos.

Latest on the Magic of the Spheres podcast – I had a dazzling conversation with fellow astrologer Erica Jones of Real Imaginal Astrology. And I’m still moved to my very core at her description of Pluto! We spoke about the process of navigating the underworld and discovering our gifts, and the higher expressions of planets Pluto, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune that are correlated with psychological and spiritual maturity. If you want to deepen your understanding of the planetary archetypes, this would be a great episode to tune into! This episode was long so it’s in two parts, you can listen to part one on your browser here and part two here. Or tune in where you listen to podcasts. Here’s our week:

Mars in 6 Virgo trine Uranus in 6 Taurus: 3:53 AM PDT

(Image: Věra Chytilová)

  • We may have heightened opportunities to act decisively/precisely in a way that affirms our values. Should we be in an ongoing process of more clearly naming and feeling into the values we are seeking to cultivate in our lives, the more apparent the opportunity to make choices that reflect those values.

  • Do you have a pleasure ceiling? This is a phenomenon where when something gets too good, you feel as though you are not allowed to have it somehow – like the other shoe has to drop. If we are unconsciously in collusion with this pleasure ceiling, we will not feel motivated to act on positive opportunities in our lives or we will come up with excuses. Likewise, if we are allowing ourselves to be receptive to pleasure and abundance, we may still feel normal nervousness about moving toward value affirmation but we will allow ourselves to get out of our own way.

  • We may be in a place of striving to obtain more of something in our lives, in this process of cultivation (i.e. obtaining more wealth or security) or at certain levels of success we may be seeking more ways to distribute and share the resources we have come into contact with (i.e. give value back to society, help someone in need, share information/education, fundraise for a cause, etc.) Either way we may be working to create solutions to any “not-enough” themes around resources.

Mercury enters Virgo: 12:47 AM PDT

Mercury will be in one of its home signs (the other being Gemini) here in Virgo until September 14.

  • This is a very organized place for Mercury to be, and list-making is practical magic.

  • We may be tackling complex projects or goals, but Mercury in Virgo can help us get strategic and logical about an order of operations. Often the emotion of overwhelm or not feeling prepared is in direct relationship to simply not having taken the steps yet. Each task/step we knock off the to-do list clears energy and moves us toward the objective. This methodical approach can be taken toward areas of life we normally are very deliberate about, or it could be something new that we are seeking to practically integrate into our lives.

  • I know from personal experience (a Jupiter in Virgo native here) that when I’m preparing to travel, my anxiety increasingly lessens the more I have prepared and packed. Until then, thoughts like, “maybe I shouldn’t even go…” cross my mind and seem to magically evaporate once the suitcase is packed and I’ve taken care of tasks. The same goes for public speaking – anxious thoughts come to mind and slowly quiet/disappear the more I’ve prepared my slides or practiced. I’ve learned to keep inching toward the goal without getting overly discouraged by my thoughts which shift, anyway.

  • There is a phenomenon in which people who clearly express a high degree of skill/talent and create something that looks like magic to others, are also people who are highly tuned into detail and may in a sense be their own harshest critic. Places where we are highly aware of details are also places where we may be crafty, and it is our detailed awareness that allows us to continually refine what we are creating.

Sun in 6 Virgo trine Uranus in 6 Taurus: 8:14 PM PDT

  • Any areas of life that we are lending a lot of creative attention toward (a project, a goal, self-development, etc.) may particularly benefit from slow, methodical, conscientious awareness. Little details have massive ramifications, and we may experience a ton of positive momentum coming from small shifts rather than broad sweeping gestures. If we should feel the impulse toward something extreme, that might be an invitation to slow down and consider if there’s more to the picture hidden in a pile of details we’ve perhaps stuffed in a drawer somewhere – something right under our nose.

  • If we are actively engaged in anything under the category of self-improvement (anything we’re seeking to do to be “better” in some way), this can be a good moment to really tune into self-love and self-esteem – doing these things because we love ourselves, not because we’re beating ourselves into shape. If we are deeply insecure about any of these traits that we have built projects around, it can be hard to change it – we’re already so mentally wrapped around the negative self-talk. If you want to shift the direction toward coming from a place of self-love and self-esteem as opposed to self-loathing (which, coming from a place of love will help manifest the desired result more quickly and gracefully anyway), just keep coming back to love when you catch yourself straying. Like a meditator learning to continue to come back to the breath after being distracted by thoughts, I’m proposing a similar process. Tune into love and gentleness within yourself as you improve what you seek to improve, and bring your thoughts and affirmations back to this place when you catch yourself straying. It’s not an arrival point – it’s a continual practice!

New Moon in 6 Virgo: 3:37 AM PDT

This New Moon is pretty highly aspected – sandwiched between a Virgo stellium with Mercury, Juno, Mars and Venus. The New Moon also trines Uranus in Taurus and Saturn in Capricorn, forming a grand earth trine. The Sun and Moon also quincunx Chiron in Aries and square Ceres in Sagittarius at this lunation.

  • There is a creative value in being “picky” or more neutrally said, “discerning”. We bypass our own boundaries when we judge ourselves for having preferences, while other situations we are necessarily humbled to accept what is. And how to tell the difference? Discernment, of course. 😂 We may be working with becoming more clear about where we are going to draw the line.

  • We will have undue weight on our shoulders and undue amount of things to worry about if we believe (consciously or unconsciously) that we are responsible for things that are truly not in our realm of agency or control. The best we can do is show up for our own work or part of the equation, and this too is a path of self-accuracy to discover what is our role.

  • Tune in with the self-esteem and satisfaction you feel when you’re on track or you make a step in a positive direction. The feeling you get when you honor your vessel, when you are caring and thoughtful about your reality. This is an important emotion to recognize and validate. It may not be as loud as the anxious or critical mind, but it is a worthy guide. The more of these positive actions and feelings accumulated, the more elevated the trajectory.

  • There are very basic things that change our whole lives, like eating in a way that harmonizes with our health. There may be a lot of noise – i.e. we eat whatever we want and don’t actually know what in particular that we’re eating that is causing some allergic reaction or health issue we are having. Wherever we are experiencing dysfunction or even crisis it is worth first just getting curious, “what do I not know that would help me in this situation?” If you believe we are participating in an aware, alive cosmos, often help will arrive when we are ready for it. (Not that this process is not structurally easier when/where we have privilege).

  • In general this New Moon can herald accelerated consciousness around the details somewhere in our lives – I say “somewhere” because all the details *everywhere* would be far more information than one could integrate – like becoming a master in every trade and discipline. Virgo-level attunement to detail is about specialty or one thing at a time. Where is this happening for you? Tuning into the details is another way of demystifiying a situation or pulling ourselves out of confusion and into clarity.

Mercury in 6 Virgo trine Uranus in 6 Taurus: 7:10 AM PDT

Venus in 14 Virgo trine Saturn in 14 Capricorn: 11:48 AM PDT

  • One of the lower impulses of this Venus-Saturn transit would be to subtly punish other people because of our criticisms of them – they did something wrong so we will withhold or lash out in some way. Even as this appears as an individual impulse, it is socially conditioned to treat each other in this way. This patterning corresponds with a lot of hardship and heartache. At a higher level these situations of discord would be openings for collaborative problem-solving and collaborative creation of win-win solutions. This necessarily draws upon the self-accuracy and maturity of the parties involved to be at a place where they are not in relationship to subtly coerce and control the other as a means of feeling secure.

  • Venus-Saturn contacts can bring us in touch with relationship milestones (as harvests of what we’ve already built) or hard feedback in relationship that relates to what is not working, or a combination of a both. Venus-Saturn represents maturation in love, and the ways we learn how to better love ourselves and others with time and experience. However, this also counts on our willingness to lean into the lessons.

Sun in 9 Virgo conjunct Mars in 9 Virgo: 3:42 AM PDT

This conjunction is part of a stellium of planets in Virgo – Juno, Mercury, and Venus as well.

  • We may have distinct (or even momentarily excruciating) awareness of where it is we have room to grow – where our personal work is to become better. There is actually no need to spiral into shame – it’s this kind of fear of looking at the self that has us procrastinating facing issues sometimes in the first place. These visions of self-improvement may actually hold a lot of promise if we think about it – now that we know what we want to shift, there is new possibility.

Venus in 15 Virgo square Jupiter in 15 Sagittarius: 9:26 AM PDT

  • Where is it in life that you are growth minded? (i.e. building your business, increasing your income, calling partnership into your life, developing a skill, etc.) This may be the Jupiter side of the equation, as Jupiter is a planet of expansion. Venus in Virgo comes into help us become more aware of personal excesses and how they may work at cross-purpose to our overall vision. We may fine-tune how we are allocating our energy based off of this feedback.

  • As we covered in a recent forecast, a love language of Venus in Virgo is doing truly thoughtful things for others to show that you care. Venus-Jupiter relates to BIG love – very affectionate people, lavish indulgence, warmth, sweetness. One of the unintentional excesses of Sagittarius (and Jupiter – not to mention Jupiter in Sagittarius!) is to think that good intentions are enough. But as we know, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”. Good intentions are part of the equation. But discovering how those good intentions translate to good results requires humility to be open and receptive to feedback and to change one’s behavior if said intentions are not producing results. While not necessarily a broad romantic gesture (though it could be, but not necessarily), love is increasing in our lives at this time when we become more thoughtful, conscientious, and deliberate.

Mercury in 10 Virgo conjunct Mars in 10 Virgo: 8:39 AM PDT

  • Mars-Mercury contacts can relate to extra heat/inflammation in the nervous system even here in an earth sign. If we were acting out externally with inflammation this might look like having to learn anger management. But force can be internalized and directed inwardly, as well. With Mercury joining up with Mars, we may have more lucid, cognitive tracking of how we are doing this and what it feels like in the body. Working with Mars is learning how to bring out the most noble elements of the archetype, like healthy application of will and the ability to be decisive or to defend *when necessary*. Therefore we might be refining our ability to metabolize and respond to stress in a way that brings greater peace, rather than war, to the nervous system.

  • This is not to discount stressors which are real and embedded into our environment, such as forms of oppression that underprivileged people live with daily, or things like people working service jobs who have to continually stay calm or nice when mistreated by customers. Mercury conjunct Mars in Virgo basically is the microaggression.

  • The path of esoteric empowerment (through Pluto, for example…) has much to do with increasing personal agency no matter what is happening in the external – not to bypass the external reality through wishful or positive thinking, but to engage with it as it is, while also shifting our mindset and generating thoughts on purpose that activate our own wellbeing. Gaining a level of command on the mind is very powerful – it is the ability to not be overrun by anxiety or hijacked by streams of thought, as well as the ability to choose thoughts and actually relax into how they feel in the body, like a thought were a tincture and you a highly-sensitive vessel.

  • This can be a relevant time for any of us who are well-resourced to consider who is being underserved and how we might account for those experiences and adjust.
