Two Suns Glowing in the Other’s Light: Astrology of 7/24 – 7/30
For a couple of weeks I’ve been writing about parent/child dynamics and re-parenting, because of the Cancer-Capricorn oppositions in the sky and the eclipses on this axis. And while we are on the tail-end of eclipse season, and Mercury and Venus are still opposing Saturn and Pluto, these themes still apply. However, this week there is a definite influx of fiery Leo energy to our midsts. Mars in Leo and Jupiter in Sagittarius trine this week which is more or less a party transit! Mercury and Venus join up, creating a mystical window for us to name our heart’s desires and create movement in reality as we communicate unsaid sentiments and attractions.
Venus enters Leo later in the week, bringing grace into our lives through play and mutual admiration – or in other words, the quality of two or more Suns glowing in each other’s light. You know how you feel on a good day when you’re chatting up everyone and creating sparks and turning heads wherever you go? With Leo astrology, there can be plenty of light and generosity of spirit to go around. That is, if we’re not hung up on scarcity mentalities where another’s light can somehow usurp ours. The key is choosing to feel inspired and appreciative, rather than jealous, and tuning inward and recognizing our own unique gifts and beauty if we start to be outwardly focused in a negative way. Additionally, however we tend to shine is also a place we are uniquely situated to invite other people to have fun with us. This is one of Leo’s highest qualities – to lead the way into fun, to have a spirit that is so contagious it brightens and enlivens the space. It may sound like a big thing, but it’s as simple as acting from a place of joy.

retrograde Mercury in 26 Cancer conjunct Venus in 26 Cancer: 5:26 PM PDT
As Mercury retrograde has much to do with re-viewing, re-visiting, re-considering, and you catch the drift – Mercury transiting back to join up with Venus says a lot about ways that we might too, be circling back to thoughts about love and relationship and how we communicate within our relationships. In the sign of Cancer, this can be about emotional intelligence within relationships as well as how we work with themes around our own dependence or feeling depended upon by others.
When Mercury and Venus join, our hearts’ desire is as far away as the word. Meaning, if we can name what we love, we merge with it! Perhaps there are values we are holding that have not been clearly identified – we haven’t set a clear intention or made a clear ask. Movement in the situation occurs when we are able to communicate what has not yet been named/stated.
At a more problematic level, the conjunction of Venus and Mercury inspires us to shapeshift endlessly in order to mirror and please the other. While not being deceitful in a malicious way, there is an evasion of naming one’s own value or where one stands – deferring instead, to the values of the other. This is where we say, “mhmm, sure” when we really aren’t feeling a yes, or how we represent ourselves falsely with the hope of creating connection. At a higher level, this same Mercury-Venus dynamic is about shapeshifting according to the spontaneous erotic truth of the moment. This is communicating our shifting sentiments, feelings, and preferences and allowing others to match us and play with us there. It’s also our ability to play with other people as they change – being flexible to a change in plans when a friend or partner states their wishes.
Be aware of the opportunity for shift and change of plans when it comes to your connections and relationships. Meaningful and pleasant detours may arise! Creativity and co-creation occur as we venture off the beaten path with another. And if we are too attached to an agenda, we may miss the point.

Mars in 14 Leo trine retrograde Jupiter in 14 Sagittarius: 5:26 PM PDT
This can definitely be a rowdy party energy with these two planets harmonizing in fire signs. Our impulse/will to go to excess is emphasized – which can be unhealthy OR magical and expansive depending on the needs of the individual.
At a philosophical layer, our creative impulses may easily lead us toward a greater understanding of the bigger picture. It’s as though we’re full of drive to make art because the Universe itself is rushing that inspiration through us. Or as though we’re feeling playful, open to connection & awake in our lower chakras… so we’re ready, so to say, when we cross paths with a person who is about to be a lover or partner, or we’re ready and present for some powerful burst of Shakti/Shiva energy to grace our existing intimate connections with self and other. This is generally assuming we have a healthy relationship to the ego. If the ego is in overdrive, our desires and drives may be less in touch with the bigger picture and more related to our own personal bubble and illusion of separation. However, when we are not driving solely with the ego and are in a more spiritual place, fiery bursts of inspiration that we get ARE energy and we are the conduits. The question is, what can we do this fire? If we’re feeling activated, why? With some room for philosophizing, the answers might be the kind that are lived into, through adventure and direct experience!
Mars-Jupiter connections also rev up our will and interest in the pursuit of higher knowledge. Some people shrug and say “it’s not for me to know”. Mars-Jupiter wants to know and is determined to set off on the path to know.
The kind of buoyant determination that comes with Mars-Jupiter has a shadow side, as well, and we may practice temperance when it comes to the impulse to bulldoze over boundaries. We are more ideally, learning about beneficial, life-enhancing application of the will.
In combination with the co-occuring transit of the Mercury-Venus conjunction in Cancer, rather than making assumptions about where others are at in any charged situation, we could always gather more information by expressing how we’re feeling and asking others questions.
We may also be experiencing lessons of the value of true confidence, and how doors open when we are confident and when we have faith in our talents and capacities.

Venus enters Leo: 6:53 PM PDT
Venus will stay in Leo until August 21.
Venus in Leo is a fun transit! The social field can be full of warmth, affection, play, and romance.
At a lower level (and lacking reciprocity), the vanity of Venus in Leo is about wanting attention but not really caring about the other. In situations of reciprocity, it’s more like two Suns glowing in each other’s light. We co-create and animate life together.
Generally Venus is a planet that inspires reciprocity and we tend to want to be generous and affectionate to those who touch and move us in that way. With Venus in Leo, there is a lot of inspiration to flame the fires of admiration, affection, appreciation, and recognition. We experience joy by sharing and receiving abundant generosity.
Another higher opportunity of Venus in Leo is to bring authenticity into our relationships and self-image – shining the light on exactly where we’re at and who we know ourselves to be at a deep level (our inner-radiance, the inner-Sun). While this means not getting in the way of sharing our light and talents (who are we not to shine?), it also means allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. And it even means being basic when we’re feeling basic. Every authentic moment can be magical, and not because it has to look a certain way or fit a certain standard of excellence. Part of Leo process is having the ability to enjoy lavishness and showiness and also love and appreciate the more normal facets of self and other in between the highs.

Sun in 6 Leo square Uranus in 6 Taurus: 4:14 PM PDT
The natural urge to play and express that the Sun in Leo invites into the field brings us back to the radical evolutions of self-love and the revelations of abundance that Uranus in Taurus is supporting. Meaning – where we love ourselves, we are not afraid to show ourselves. Where we want to be seen, we also may validate ourselves, and from this place of being internally validated self-express as an act of unattached, free generosity. Where we feel we have enough (and even more than we need), there is more to share and go around.
If we are receiving positive reflections from others (and you know, the kind that makes you kind of uncomfortable), this is a good time to practice receiving. Do you accept compliments well? Do you integrate the positive feedback into a sense of allowing yourself to feel loved? There is nothing wrong with wanting validation from others – it’s a basic need. But it’s self-care to actually digest that validation so we can feel the very satiation we craved in the first place.
Experiences of insecurity or lack can point us back to send a little love into our roots, literally our connection to the Earth. Speaking from personal experience, I connected with the planets outside of Earth at deep levels as I studied and began to practice astrology, and only then did I re-discover Earth and I was stunned at how generous and abundant Earth is. Connecting with plant life, rocks, water, and soil on this planet has a way of opening the heart. Do we have romance and intimacy with Gaia or are we tenderly cultivating those bonds?
