Before I get into this week’s astrology with you, I am excited to announce that my upcoming Introduction to Evolutionary Astrology Intensive is open for earlybird enrollment (earlybird lasts until September 21). You can read more and enroll here.
Mars is now direct, though still in shadow until October – though you may feel the shift beginning to occur now in terms of moving forward again after some time of rest, repose, or stagnation. Many of us will be getting back into the rhythm of school, or if we are situated outside of the school world we may still experience the summer/autumn transition being a time to get things ordered, ready, and to get back into work. It’s Virgo Season!
This week’s alignments present us opportunities to drop into noticing the pleasures of existence that we are working toward, yet are already here in some form – whatever it is we imagine we are putting off for later. You may find yourself on this precipice if you have become inordinately stressed about perfectionism, high performance, keeping it all together, or getting ahead & that you are doing it for some future result you anticipate will be pleasurable. But if you remember what motivates you in the first place and connect to that here and now, you’ll be connected to the source of your creativity rather than imagining you are still reaching toward it.
As Venus and Mars approach a square I’m reminded of a David R. Hawkins quote from Power Vs. Force: “Experientially, as we’ve seen, pleasure is merely high energy.”
When we are advised to stay in the present or to connect to the moment, the concept is abstract until it is experiential. There is no way to know what it feels like until you find the doorway in – let that be your invitation/discovery this week.

Here’s our week:
September 2, 2018
Last Quarter Moon in 10 Gemini: 7:37 PM PDT
This marks the last week of our current lunar cycle before the New Moon in Virgo on September 9. Last quarter moons signify that energy is winding down; the peak of the full moon has passed and the moon is gradually disappearing from our sight in the night sky. These are some themes that may coincide with this lunation:
-
How we measure alignment (how organized we are, our mind-body-spirit connection, our sense of self-accuracy) is shifting. New perceptions can arise at this time to help us become more lucid about what steps to take to improve ourselves and the world around us, while at the same time dissolving certain constructs of perfectionism.
-
The Moon in Gemini correlates with an ability to consciously register one’s internal world and how one perceives/filters reality – like how the act of writing in a diary renders one’s inner world into language. The word is transformative – it allows us to form connections; allows us to form connections to each other’s worlds. So as certain inner, felt experiences become intelligible this week, we become more self-aware and more resourced to align ourselves within our paths accordingly.
-
The Moon in Gemini can also correlate with a light, curious perception of reality where simply observing and noticing details of one’s subjective experience is pleasurable. The spirit of curiosity is available to us if we choose to tune into it and it has the potential to shake out mental stagnancy and invite us into rabbit holes of simply more enchanting and interesting moments and strings of moments. True to Gemini’s magician quality, following curiosity and interest does change our path – new roads and attractions appear, and they are in dialogue with us.
September 3, 2018
Mercury in 25 Leo sextile Venus in 25 Libra: 5:58 AM PDT
Venus is also now in the pre-shadow zone of her upcoming retrograde (Venus stations October 5). Subtle intimations of the upcoming retrograde begin to appear – stay tuned for more information on Venus retrograde. You’ll want to be on my mailing list to hear about it! Sign up here.
Venus is also just a few degrees away from a square to recently stationed Mars in Capricorn, while Mercury in Leo and Mars in Capricorn form a quincunx. Some themes:
-
Creative tensions are mounting around how we are building the life that we love – our various projects, our careers, our relationships, and how we manage it all.
-
When stress and pressure builds we can get into a place where we are putting off enjoyment/fun/satisfaction until a projected destination point. While this on the one hand represents a psychological skill of being able to hold off on gratification (like working for a future result rather than needing immediate gratification), it does not also mean that the current process needs to be a moment to shut down or totally go without gratification. Just like if you catch yourself in the middle of the day breathing shallowly, rather than breathing fully, there are ways that we forget to take in the pleasures of the long-roads we are on.
-
This transit invites us to have more fun and derive more enjoyment out of our work/‘work’, especially if it is the work we love but that we have let the various pressures of work and life disconnect us from the erotic spirit that pulses through us.
Thank you for meditating on the planets with me. Let me know how you’re doing in the comments and please share this article with your friends!
