Emotional Freedom: Astrology of 5/22 – 5/28

Emotions come from many different places. There are emotions that come from the ego, emotions that come from the soul, emotions that come from the earth, emotions that come from the collective, emotion that comes from our trauma, emotions that come from our wounds, emotions that come from our power, emotions that arise from within, emotions that reach us from others, emotions that come from divine inspiration, and so on.

There were less planetary alignments than usual this week, so I took a deeper and more esoteric dive into a theme I found in common in the transits this week, which is emotional freedom.

I’d like to invite you to contemplate what it would mean to be emotionally detached enough as to not be hijacked by emotions, but from this place of detachment choose how you would like to enter more deeply and more intimately into reality?

Emotional detachment is just one part of a two-step process. Emotional detachment sets the stage for intimacy with life. Detachment allows us to view our options and from those options, to feel into which strikes us as the most truthful, the most resonant, or the most life-enhancing. Then, we can enter into it, like catching a wave at the beach. The wave dissolves into the ocean again. And again, we watch the waves and decide which ones we’d like to catch.

This is not even about only choosing emotions that we tend to think feel good, like happiness. From a place of deep truth, emotions like grief and sorrow have their dignity, too.

The point is not to stay emotionally detached and separate from life, nor to be so entangled in emotions that we are caught in illusion and maya. Detachment and intimacy are like an in and out breath of life.

And welcome back! In case this is your first time here, I’m Sabrina Monarch and I’ve been writing these weekly astrology forecasts for nearly four years now. I love providing perspectives on the opportunities of transits and putting into words what the vibe may feel like at this moment in time, to support you on your path & open a dialogue between us and the cosmos. If you would like to receive these weekly forecasts to your inbox, sign up for my mailing list here.

I have a special opportunity for you. Do you want to learn how to speak the language of astrology for yourself? I have an upcoming online 45 hour Evolutionary Astrology intensive coming up in June, designed to give you the vocabulary and skillset to start forming your own astrological interpretations from the perspective of the soul. I created this course because I wanted other people to have the opportunity to have a deep personal connection to astrology which would empower them to have astrology as a personal and spiritual growth tool as something to keep long after the course is over. Past students have reported that this course is life-changing and has supported them on their spiritual path. You can read more about this course and enroll here.

If you’ve already known about this course and are planning on signing up – throw an arrow into your future and sign up now. I have to cap enrollment at a certain point to assure I can be there for each student, so secure your spot by signing up before the last minute! 😉 Payment plans are available, just email me at sabrina@monarchastrology.com to ask about enrolling by payment plan.

One of my astrology teachers taught me the concept of throwing arrows into the future – what she meant by that was that when we make plans, we alter our present moment – we pull the influence of the future into our present moment. ? It’s a sure way to get out of a holding pattern or to shift your life in a desired direction.

Enroll & read all about the course in detail here.

Here’s our week:

May 22, 2019

Mars in 4 Cancer sextile Uranus in 4 Taurus: 7:46 AM PDT

This is a subtle harmony (sextile) between Mars in emotionally-charged Cancer and Uranus in grounded and stable Taurus. There is an opportunity to visit or adjust how we carry emotions in the body and how we release emotions from the body.

  • This transit can highlight the gift and/or importance of emotional self-regulation. Do we know how to soothe ourselves and create a shift in our own chemistry? Consider how some of the following activities create a felt shift in your nervous system: calmly voicing and identifying how you are feeling and what sensations you are feeling in your body, taking a deep breath in and an audible breath out through the mouth (“ahhhhhhh”), and lightly tracing your fingertips across your skin.

  • During times of heightened stress or transformation in life, practices of emotional self-regulation may be paramount! Yet, even when things are a little calmer, why not take care of ourselves when we are feeling irritated? Perhaps from a place of routine, we bypass emotional disturbances by sweeping them under the rug. But emotional disturbances can also be epicenters of spiritual awakening, if we unpack the message and process it.

  • What can be radical about this practice this week is that we can meet our anxiety, irritation, or hotter forms of emotional reactivity with a deep sense of calm. How would you treat yourself if you were also tapping into a very solid, grounded aspect of you who is taking care of yourself?

  • Typically, the more that we develop a capacity to hold complex emotions, the more our nervous system releases stuck emotions for us to heal and release. We can recognize the surfacing of loaded emotions and memories as a sign we are energetically leveling up.

Last Quarter Moon in 5 Pisces: 9:33 AM PDT

The Moon will be conjunct Black Moon Lilith in Pisces, and square Ceres in Sagittarius. Together with the Sun and Mercury in Gemini we have a mutable T-square.

  • Consider the ways that you choose to be “open”. Being open does not have to mean being indiscriminately open to literally anything. Openness can also be about having the space to make a choice. As example: the thoughts that pass in and out of our consciousness are like guests that we can choose to entertain, or not. So that means that even if a self-critical or a fearful thought has managed to enter your mind, at a higher level, you choose whether or not you entertain that thought.

(Image: Daniel Shaffer)

  • Easy enough. Now consider what kinds of emotions you entertain & how you entertain it. When an emotion passes through you, there is a difference between dialoguing with it and discovering what the message is, versus being blown over by it & believing the emotion or allowing that emotion to tint your entire field of vision without your desire. Alternately, if you would like to be “overcome” with sentiment, beauty, etc., that is different. Emotional surrender can be spiritual and ecstatic.

  • Are we conditioned to think that emotions are just what they are and feelings are just feelings? Or are they like energies, almost like people we can be in relationship with which means we can share mutual curiosity, communication, and collaboration? Why not?

  • There is also the ability to intentionally choose an emotion (like gratitude, love, bliss, etc.), try it on like a pair of glasses, and see how it changes your reality and how you move about your day. Even from this space, surrendering into the depth of experience is also a choice. Don’t forget you have choice.

  • All of these above points are ways of saying that detachment (viewing thoughts and emotions rather than simply being in them) is a way that we can then re-enter experience with choice, agency, and ultimately greater intimacy. Detachment is a route to freedom, but once we are free that’s not the end! We get to make choices about how we want to participate with reality from our free orientation.

  • Consider if there is something in your life right now that is inviting you to shift your perception and how you choose to emotionally respond. Imagine how you would like to feel, and dive into that feeling state. Detachment shouldn’t be about not having emotion or escaping our experience – it can be a gateway toward evolving our emotional responses and calling forth new realities because we are dancing with reality in new, imaginative ways.

  • This last quarter moon can herald an emotional, even spiritual, breakthrough that arises out of our ability to simply try on a new perception as we realize that our thoughts and feelings are not static objective facts but are shiftable, and participatory.
