Taking Care of your Sun and Moon

The Sun and Moon are not necessarily the most karmic figures in a natal chart – if you told me your Sun and Moon at a party for example, rather than where Pluto and your lunar nodes are, I wouldn’t know as much about where you were coming from on a Soul level. (The Sun and/or Moon can be connected to your Pluto or nodes by aspect or rulership, and then either can become more karmically situated.) We would be talking more about your personality, which in terms of this lifetime… is crucial for personal happiness.

The Sun relates to your radiant essence; the way you emanate or beam your energy, how you are joyful, what you are like in an actualized state. Not stepped into, the Sun can be dim; the lights can be off. The Moon relates to how you feel secure and nurtured, and generally how you feel – it’s a filter, or a tint that gets placed on your perception. This tint opens or closes you to particular experiences – an open, nurtured, trusting tint will perceive and act and feel differently than one that feels not taken care of and abandoned.

You can take care of your Sun and Moon by tuning into the signs and houses they are in as well as the planets that your Sun and Moon form aspects to. Taking care of the planets in your chart relates to doing things that romance and form relationships to them. If you moved into a new house and didn’t get any furniture or decorate it and never cleaned it, you might not enjoy inhabiting that house. The same goes for the natal chart – all of the placements are full of potentials that can be accessed. The planets in your chart don’t signify static realities or fateful realities that simply happen to you – they are parts of you that you can be in relationship to.

People can arrive at positive relationships to their Sun and Moon regardless of whether or not they know astrology, but astrology is a spiritual perspective that refines the intuition and offers personal reflection. Both of these gifts can help you sort out who you intrinsically are and how you can step into your beingness.

I’m an Aries (Mars ruled) Sun, and my life has drastically changed for the better since I found an embodied practice that works for me and since I’ve been consistent with it – in my case it’s been a few years of yoga. I started out with kundalini and now do ashtanga yoga 5-6 mornings a week. Sweating in the morning and building strength has permeated positive change into my entire life like sun rays. I also like having a mission, being around coaches or being coach-like (motivating people to do their best), and continually discovering myself and life through new experiences I feel impulsively drawn to.

I’m a Taurus Moon, and taking the time to cultivate my material life is really important to my happiness too. I love clothes and have shed tears (the lunar archetype is very watery & tears related!) multiple times in my life over not feeling like I have enough clothes… and have cried over being so happy about clothing I have. The only way I can take care of that emotional need is to be in relationship to it, which for me includes doing things like making time to go out thrift shopping or visiting a tailor and having garments adjusted to fit me. Rather than letting another voice in my consciousness that I’ve internalized convince me that having nice things that I’m emotionally connected to is frivolous or “materialistic” (which it is, materialistic, but also spiritual for me), I consider it a basic personal need. I like all the simple pleasures – having my feet in the dirt, lighting incense, eating good food.

If you can take care of your Sun & Moon, you’ll tend to feel energized and supported to do the rest (of your chart, of life).

If you struggle with having a good experience with one of your planets or chart signatures, it often can use a little imagination, play and courtship. And you can tune into the planets it is in aspect to and nourish them, and feel the benefits ripple into the entire aspect formation.

“Taking Sabrina’s immersion course has been life-changing. As a tarot reader, it’s speaking my language to talk in archetypes, and exploring the twelve of the zodiac has opened my mind and heart to a whole new dimension of understanding human consciousness and experience. I am finding myself connecting naturally and deeply to circumstances in everyday life and identifying them with their corresponding sign, house, etc. The soul-centered focus of Evolutionary Astrology is most relevant in this time where we are at an evolutionary turning point; in which it is almost vital for us to connect with spirit and soul to heal our humanity, our species and our planet. Sabrina herself is present, intuitive, and highly intellectual, and she teaches compassionately without judgement. With the whole of the bigger picture collective evolution in mind, she breaks down the details and offers full spectrum interpretation of the signs and planets. Her course is thorough, engaging and stimulating on both the intellectual and spiritual levels. I recommend her course to anyone curious about diving deeper into the nature of our soul experience as humans on earth.” – Sarah M.

So much gratitude for you, this is wonderful article. I take very good care of my pisces sun, my Aries moon gets a little neglected. It’s in the second house which I do take care of in regards to moon in second house energy but my lunar Aries energy needs I’m struggling with when comes to intimate partnership, has been difficult to find a conscious man who can meet my Aries emotional energy.

I also feel like I take good care of my pisces sun, but I feel alienated and distant from my gemini moon, like I don’t really know what she wants. I also have trouble finding positive intimate relationships and feel at a point where I’m just not interested in trying anymore, but this does not make my depth driven sun happy, scorpio rising with a longing for connection… Thanks for these tips! I’ll have a look at its house and see what I can do. xoxo

Thanks for sharing your story, wonderful:)
As a Libra Sun it might also be good for me to have beautiful clothes too. My dad was a Libra with Moon in Libra. When I was a kid he was the one who made sure I was beautifully dressed and took care of buying and straightening my clothes and stuff. I still remember feeling loved when he did that.
My moon is in Leo and I’ve always been ashamed of needing to be center of attention I still don’t know how to deal with that. (maybe it’s my Aries Saturn opposite my Sun)Once when I was working as a make up artist in a theater and a local tv station came. I thought I would be terrified of the camera but to my surprise I felt peaceful and grounded. Nowadays I play games with my sons to nurture my moon. Right now I’m sic
(blame it on the eclipse) I find the best thing for me is to soak up the sun ???

i think my taurus moon needs food supplies for months and money in the bank and i’m super sensual… love silk and linen and touch! i think i’ve been tending my sagittarius sun lately by going out a lot! i feel i developed a perception at some point that my mars in aries (5th house) was a liability but i’d love to learn to romance and nourish that part of myself better.

I like to nurture my Libra sun and Pisces moon together. I’ve lived with lots of roommates for the last few years and I love getting people to meet up and really communicate what they need from each other. I do it at work a lot too. I’ve found in both situations that people love to talk about what’s bugging them to anyone other than the person causing the problem. No one loves the idea of having a meeting, but once it’s over things are usually a lot better.
Libra Sun loves that conflict resolution and my Pisces Moon loves not having all that toxic energy hanging around!

Love this! Reminds me of a friend of mine who is Pisces Sun and Libra Moon and he does a very similar thing!

It is essential to my heath that I nourish my Aries Sun & Taurus Moon equally. The balance is broken when the moon is full and eclipses in season. I will get back to balance soon, Loving my Sun and Moon as one.
