Depending on how attached we are to the energies of spring and summer, we may go unwillingly into the energies of Scorpio transits where we are to encounter endings. Rebirth, as part of the cycle, is promised, but there are still moments in the death-cycle and underworld space worth taking residency within. We are brought into contact with mysteries that deepen and complexify our consciousness. If we make space for this part of the process, our futures will be truly fertilized by it.
All of our exacting transits this week involve Scorpio planets or Pluto (ruler of Scorpio), so the theme of ‘going through it’ is still with us. This is a space of deep transformation which can be soul-renewing and insight-creating if embraced and often painful if resisted.
At the end of the week, Mercury and Venus join up in Scorpio with an exact conjunction. Mercury-Venus aspects are often found in the charts of writers, people who relate to the written word with the relational passion and intimacy of Venus. Mercury-Venus combinations relate to a desire to keep thoughts and ideas beautiful as well as to really name and classify what is beautiful – to specifically perceive beauty by discerning how one internally organizes impressions from reality. It is how we might perhaps focus on and magnify what we perceive as beautiful and in effect to see more beauty and enter more deeply into it because of such focus. In the sign of depth probing Scorpio, this conjunction may assist us in finding the rose-tinted glasses that pair best with any current scenes of the descent/underworld. It could be cozy and it could be sultry… find what you truly connect to within yourself, even and especially if you have to dig for it.

Here’s our week:
October 10, 2018
Mercury in 1 Scorpio opposite Uranus in 1 Taurus: 10:36 AM PDT
-
Surprising or shocking messages may come through at this time with Mercury as messenger opposing erratic Uranus. On a deeper level, such interruptions offer us more visceral or extreme feedback from reality itself which may hold messages that go beyond our current bandwidth for understanding. Allow some hindsight to fill in the gaps.
-
This dynamic can bring us in touch with the richness of enjoying physical, sensual experience and intellectual experience simultaneously — or the richness of the body-mind.
-
See if you can expand yourself past any blocks you have to doing nice things for yourself which you know will set up your mental state and day for the better. If you are feeling tired or lethargic and that is keeping you away from self-care – activities which clear stagnant energy take an initial boost of energy but will offer a return. Fixed signs like Scorpio and Taurus have a lot of energy packed inside of them, which can get locked in or stagnant but also can be potent and transformative when released.
-
It can be important to find out what turns you on about yourself… not how well you match up to things like cultural status and beauty standards, but how tuned in you are to your own core essence and how lovingly you cultivate that. Not only does this process address our own wounding around not feeling valuable or attractive, but it also empowers and inspires others when a being is fully themselves.
Venus in 10 Scorpio square Mars in 10 Aquarius: 7:29 PM PDT
-
This dynamic has been going on for a little bit of time so it is not unique to this week – it is part of an overall theme around tension and dynamism in relationship. Venus and Mars in square aspect is the same energy that keeps lovers not wanting to keep their hands off of one another as the energy that creates fights and separations. The difference between whether this alignment correlates with extra energy and attraction in some relationships and fights or separations in others can come down to if the same values are shared and if those same values are being fought for and defended.
-
One theme emerging may be around moving from feeling disempowered about one’s value (either internally or in relationship) and engaging in spontaneous, new adventures which re-write our personal or relational narratives. Or in other words, getting out of stuck and entrenched patterns by doing something out of the box.
-
A possible result of the current tensions could be a revolutionary new perception of our most entrenched patterns and psychological assumptions. We can get some distance from our own stuckness by talking to others about our situation – ideally others who offer novel perspective.
-
Another theme from this transit can be finding the right balance of intensity (Scorpio) and spaciousness (Aquarius). An extreme of one will trigger extreme forms of the other – such as alienating others with intensity or feeling so isolated that one desires intimacy. It is not exactly about choosing one over the other but rather finding out how they integrate without creating explosiveness. That being said, squares are explosive dynamics and tend to bring inner and outer conflicts to a head such that creative solutions are ripe to emerge.
-
When certain values die to us or we become more intensely devoted to values that really resonate with us, some kind of freedom is bound to emerge.

Sun in 18 Libra square Pluto in 18 Capricorn: 9:11 PM PDT
Asteroid Ceres, related to grief, is still conjunct the Sun and square Pluto. Ceres relates to three different characters inside of us or constellated through others – which are Demeter, Persephone and Hades. Demeter grieves the loss of her daughter, Persephone, to the underworld, and scours the Earth in that grief. Persephone goes from being close to her mother and picking flowers one day to literally being swallowed up by Hell and then eventually liking her stay there with Hades and becoming queen. Persephone goes back and forth between the above world and the underworld. And Hades, you could say, speaks to the dimension of self or of life that pulls us under as well as temptations/the taboo.
I share this hyper-summarized mythic perspective to just illustrate that there are multiple inner-personalities that deal with grief – the side of us that is frozen by it, a side of us that is trying to stay innocent for as long as possible from the hardships of life or future hardships, a side of us that loves the soulfulness of the swamp, the side of us that finds power in underworld journeying, the side of us that mediates between the depths and the surface life, the side of us that ushers us into intense experiences without much fear of grief to come, and so on.
Ritual space might be seen as intentional travels to other realms where there is the possibility (through the opening and closing of ritual space) to descend and re-ascend. If we have unprocessed grief that we have been trying to deal with alone, there might be more fruitful opportunities to instead get help from others – to be witnessed or to have intentional space to process. It could be in community or with a specific healer. Being able to process grief is a way of mediating content from the underworld into the above world; or vice versa; rather than being frozen.

Mercury in 3 Scorpio sextile Saturn in 3 Capricorn: 1:20 AM PDT

-
A lazy or resting-position of this dynamic would be to encounter either a good thing or a difficulty along the path and to go into a self-sabotage space. Either we cannot have good things because this is outside of our normal bandwidth of pleasure; or difficulty means we are incompetent and should give up.
-
Alternately, if we are loyal to being on track with our highest selves and our core selves, we may engage in watching and transforming our thought patterns as both good and bad circumstances pass us by. Each new leg of the journeys we are on might require upgrades in thinking, where otherwise we only see the option to regress or sabotage.
-
Choosing to stay the course does not mean that the course may not appear to change or involve a period of rest/deconstruction; it means is that we are in touch with ourselves and stick with the desires and the difficult questions and allow inner-wisdom from our deepest reserves to make its way to the surface of our consciousness.
-
Deep self-knowledge and connection to the whole is rewarded.

Mercury in 8 Scorpio conjunct Venus in 8 Scorpio: 1:20 PM PDT
-
It is a time to become increasingly keenly aware of what we value and desire versus that which is not relevant or desirable to us. You may notice this as an undercurrent of various conversations happening around you!
-
We may be feeling called to investigate and analyze ourselves and others; to get to the bottom of our questions around love and relationship; to combine our thinking with compassion and love as we touch more sensitive topics.
-
This can be a beautiful time for introspective activities like journalling, as well as for lively intimate conversations with others. Ideas are likely to experience transformation as they are dialogued (internally or with others) so it is a good time to stir the pot of your juiciest or most compelling ideas and attractions and see what comes of it.
Thank you for meditating on the planets with me this week! If you’re getting the itch to study astrology and you’d like to study directly with me and a group of likeminds, I’d love to have you in my upcoming intensive course in January. You’ll learn the foundations for understanding Evolutionary Astrology and learn how to read charts from the perspective of the soul. Looking at the chart this way means gaining a narrative for where a soul is coming from in prior lives and what they are working on in this life. Having this meditation for yourself is an amazing way to understand who you deeply are and how you are called to show up in this lifetime; how your very circumstances do support your path. Learn more and enroll here.
If you’d like to get a reading with me and get my take on your chart, I always approach natal chart readings from the perspective of the soul. Book a reading with me here.
