Mercury re-enters expansive Sagittarius this week after stationing direct last week, signifying there are new horizons to be reached in the mind and in our communications. Venus and Mars, both in water signs, form aspects to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. Here there is a supportive element to do deep work around releasing stagnant, repressed energy from the emotional body, restructuring and maturing toxic or immature emotional patterns, and even generating new compassionate thoughts and habits. Empowerment arises both from becoming deeply self-aware and developing the agency and will to change.
None of us are spared from pain in this earth experience. The question instead is what you do with it. Saturn and Pluto can seem to have some stake in having us face reality (Saturn) as well as face our pain and grow from it (Pluto). Venus and Mars in water signs this week enhance our ability to feel, as well as our ability to have an active interest or fascination in what we are feeling – and so importantly, to forgive and love and accept it all and loosen up whatever got crusty from judgement. We may have deep compassion for ourselves and also inquire into the meanings beneath those feelings and discover what gems and medicines reside within. Some of this may take active effort if it goes against habit, so keep that in mind and tread lovingly.
My upcoming Evolutionary Astrology intensive is beginning January 20! Spots are filling but there is still space. This is an opportunity to learn about the body of knowledge that is Evolutionary Astrology – which is a school of astrology that opens a window into discovering soul purpose and the history of the soul… quite literally, what kinds of karmas you have brought into this life with you and what you are learning and developing in this life. This is an introspective and soul-enhancing practice as much as it is a wisdom practice – discovering the evolutionary archs of all of the signs and planets gives insight into how to actualize our potentials and address and transform our blocks and shadows. You’ll learn how to analyze natal charts from this evolutionary perspective. The course meets live but all sessions are also recorded for you to keep up with, as well. I would love for you to join our learning community! Read more about the course and enroll here. Payment plans are available, simply email me at sabrina@monarchastrology.com to inquire.

Here’s our week:
December 12
Mercury enters Sagittarius: 4:42 PM PDT
(Image: Storyteller by Kathleen Atkins Wilson)
Mercury will stay in Sagittarius until January 4, 2019. Recently stationed direct at the end of Scorpio, Mercury’s movement into Sagittarius is a re-entrance.
-
We are likely to communicate in bigger ways – Sagittarius correlates with expansion and tall tales. Interestingly, sometimes what feels like exaggeration is closer to the truth, while understating is lying by omission. Consider where in your life being over-the-top with expressing your ideas and sentiments is actually a form of authentic communication.
-
In seeking wisdom or greater knowledge, having questions and curiosity is a first step of receptivity. What knowledge we are capable of obtaining and contacting may largely depend on how receptive we are, via our curiosity.
-
If prayer is not already a feature of your spiritual life, consider how you might include it. There are many different ways to pray. Opening up a dialogue between the inner self and the outer cosmos and guides is a birthright.
-
Learning how to communicate with what is ‘beyond’ (God, guides, etc.) involves the process of understanding the subtle energies of faith. If we do not believe that anyone is listening to our prayers or that we will receive any guidance, we are energetically closed off to hearing a response. Prayer is both an active form of communication and an inward movement toward greater receptivity. Faith is a form of receptivity.
-
Some westerners are okay with consulting the subconscious for guidance and symbols via dreams, as though the subconscious eventually reaches some bottom which is contained within the personal exclusively. What if the subconscious drops out to infinity, to a greater connection to the cosmos? If you have ever received guidance from “yourself” via dreams, how much farther could this be taken? How might you be free to communicate with Source, or even with other beings like plants or spirits?
-
Of course, dialoguing with non-humans (or even with some humans) involves a language barrier. It is not that other forces and beings in the cosmos don’t have anything to say – it is our ability to decipher and hear it.
-
Take special note while Mercury is in Sagittarius of synchronicities and how they are signposts currently, offering feedback on your trajectory, or where energy is tending to constellate.
December 16
Venus in 9 Scorpio sextile Saturn in 9 Capricorn: 7:26 AM PDT
Venus and Saturn have recently made this contact before Venus retrograde (in mid-September) and again during the retrograde toward the end of October. Now it happens again as Venus is just about to leave retrograde shadow.
-
Have the last few months held revelations around what you love deeply and are willing to commit to? Or what you feel that you love, but causes you pain and is something you need to create more boundary around?

-
When Venus and Saturn come together (by transit or within an individual’s natal chart) it signifies a potential for a crusty, hardened heart. As a response to heartbreak or disappointment, one might shield themselves by building walls around the heart. This however, can have unfortunate consequences. The task is learning how to have an open heart, one that is strengthened rather than defeated by obstacles to love.
-
Intentional decision or commitment might need to be made, instead of hardening, to honor and build love, to honor and move toward what one values, to strengthen the heart by facing the heart’s reality with openness and care.
-
There may be an experience right now of compartmentalization around love, sentiment, connection, and work and duty. Or, the two realms might be contacting each other in novel ways. Love and relationship might take on extra dimensions of responsibility and sobriety (talking about difficult issues, making commitments to each other, processing and clearing the blocks to love). Work or responsibility might loosen up and become more fluid, more receptive to being infused with flow and play while still getting things done.
-
Consider the special (and advanced) magic of letting things go – disappointment, grief, grudges, addictions, patterns, etc. Venus in Scorpio harmonizing with Saturn can certainly help with this, if we would like to catch this wave.
-
Consider if there is an area in your life in which you are holding back love preventatively, as to not be taken advantage of, or to lose your energy/time/etc. Is there a more empowering way to address this situation? An arch of development is occurring where your love is becoming more infused with authority and presence. But ask yourself if you are withholding because of true wisdom or because of hard-heartedness. How would you truly rise to the occasion, even if your love is a “no” or walking away?

-
This is a subtle influence that can empower the will as we discover how to skillfully surrender control and in so doing, tap into a greater power and alignment with that greater power. Take the simple image of a surfer catching a wave – the ocean isn’t being controlled with, but is being aligned with.
-
In our lives, this may apply to situations where we are not fully conscious of how we are attempting to have control of a situation. We find our efforts thwarted or producing minimal results, which creates frustration. If this is occurring for you, step back and consider if you are inadvertently attempting to work against the flow.
-
As Mars in Pisces may be a lesson for, going with the flow does not have to be weak or spineless. The vigor of energetic of spiritual seeking that allows for truly going with the flow is a balance of exerting energy and relaxing into a greater power who can help guide the rest.

Take a moment (or some moments) this week to consider your energetic assumptions about reality or how your day is going to go. These are not just mind games and not even just positive activities for your mental health. Your bottomline assumptions about reality or about yourself affect your vibrational frequency and will affect your ability to move through the day and move through the world. Take stock and see if you would like to make any adjustments!
Thank you for being here this week and meditating on the planets with me! I love you, you are tribe to me, and I hope you have a blessed week! If you feel you would benefit from further guidance on your personal natal chart and transits, I am available to help! Book a reading with me here.
On another note, I’m becoming increasingly expressive on instagram. The creative mood has just struck me, and I love connecting with people there. If you use the app, follow me @sabrinamonarch and say hello 🙂
