Virgo takes us through the mysteries of perfection and the pursuit thereof. The perfectionist drive is so common – most people can own to having it somewhere. And we all do have Virgo somewhere in our chart, and we all have a sixth house natally (the house ruled by Virgo). Perfectionism is often – consciously or unconsciously – an avenue toward something heavenly. If everything aligns, if everything is perfect, we are guaranteed the emotional state of redemption. We will feel worthy.
The Virgo mystery however, brings us to learn how to simultaneously be aware of what we would like to improve and refine while also holding an emotional vibration that everything is already perfect. That we are worthy. That we are just where we need to be. Because truthfully, as soon as we reach the standard of excellence or perfection that we once strove toward – the horizon of self-improvement and mastery of craft recedes further out into the distance. The destination is not a fixed point in space, but rather an ideal that draws us forward.
And while it takes a little faith to believe in our own inherent perfection and enough-ness, how could we truly align to a desired future while beating ourselves up along the way? Sure, some of us do accomplish our goals in that way. But then we notice that we aren’t necessarily happy or satisfied, either – that we have to learn how to feel that way and relax into whatever we’ve accomplished. Why did we wait so long?
Because there is no fixed destination as we strive to evolve in life, we cannot afford to constantly perceive ourselves as missing the mark – to constantly be imperfect or “not good enough”. There is a way to see both how far we would like to traverse AND to fully appreciate, embody, and love the very moment we are in. It promises to be transportive and elevating. See if you can do both.
Like last week, these transits are all about Virgo – this Virgo stellium (Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars in Virgo) is creating a lot of action in our skies specifically related to these Virgo mysteries.
Before we dive into this week’s transits, an announcement:
Latest on the Magic of the Spheres podcast, I had an illuminating conversation with Chris M. Bache about karma and reincarnation. Bache has been teaching, researching and writing on the topic for the last 40 years and his book “Lifecycles: Reincarnation and the Web of Life” is one of my essentials when teaching evolutionary astrology. His writing really gives treatment to the complexity of the subject and I was delighted to have him on the show to talk about reincarnation. You can listen on your web browser here, or tune in wherever you listen to podcasts.

Venus in 17 Virgo opposite Neptune in 17 Pisces: 4:26 AM PDT
Have you ever met someone whose way of life changed you? You were enchanted by them, enamored with how they carried themselves or adorned themselves or decorated their home? You watched them move their body and wondered if you could dance that way? You hung on their every word and wondered if you could express yourself that way? The dream or the longing of who we would like to become has been germinating in the deep psyche and our first contact with a realized potential of that very dream is found in “the other”. A deep fascination with another person can be taken very personally – something about that person embodies the dream that we have been holding. And an initiation lies ahead – why else would we have contacted this other?. We have no guarantee of how the relationship will develop or progress, if at all. But we have been changed, regardless. If the relationship flourishes, we will encounter the possibility of our very Universe shifting from the other’s influence – we may learn how to activate those parts of ourselves we first saw in the other. If the relationship does not flower, we will have to connect with that flicker of Source in some other way. There will be other chances.
Say we are on a path of deepening our self-love. And this is in fact, crucial for the Venusian journey – the love we hold inside of ourselves deeply informs how we connect with others and what kinds of boundaries we will be able to have. If we are on this path, there will be times where we come into clarity of a kind of remorse to self like, “I am sorry I did this to you. I am sorry I put you through this. I’m sorry I spoke unkindly to you, I’m sorry I criticized you, I’m sorry I said yes to intimacy when my body really wasn’t open, I’m sorry I abandoned you, I’m sorry I didn’t protect you.” This kind of apology has nothing to do with shame or guilt. It’s about coming into a new relationship with ourselves such that we genuinely feel so much love, and in this is an ability to heal ourselves. See the difference between wandering through a fog of self-maltreatment versus waking up and making amends? If the apology is genuine, so is the knowing that we are worthy of love.
An additional part of this amends is making new choices that reflect deeper love. This could be replacing/re-programming old thoughts with new ones.

Mercury in 14 Virgo trine Saturn in 14 Capricorn: 5:37 AM PDT
We may be feeling a gentle push/invitation to have more clearly defined standards and boundaries. If we don’t know where we stand, we may be more experimental – thinking, “I’ll try this out and see where it goes.” And this is fine – but should we know already that a certain avenue does not appeal to us, there is a value in just saying no. (And not that these preferences have to be rigid and unchanging.)
Where we do consciously need to be experimental (we don’t have enough information yet to have a clear plan/standard), this transit may correlate with keen, discerning perception around cause and effect, and what works and what doesn’t work.

There may be areas of our lives where our approach is highly expansive and bigger-picture oriented, like we know our general destination. This is the Jupiter side. Mercury in Virgo can provide some tension and assistance here with an invitation to really flesh out the details. What are the individual steps that take us to the destination? Methodically identifying and approaching these nuts and bolts can transform a vision into a reality. We may also need to be open to the vision itself changing once we identify the details, as sometimes the details reveal a necessary shift in direction.

This can be a boost in discipline for our rituals and routines that we do on a frequent basis for accumulated results. It might be easier for us to notice gains, or to notice how getting on track with our routines/practices is actually taking us somewhere, even if the gains are very subtle.
It may be useful to take some inventory on the type of presence we are bringing into our self-improvement processes. The progress will happen gracefully and often in better timing when we are coming from a place of love. There is no “beating oneself into shape”.
If we feel we are in integrity with ourselves and with our process, we may feel a boost in self-esteem that is deeply satisfying.
Venus in 20 Virgo trine Pluto in 20 Capricorn: 8:46 PM PDT
When do forms of chasteness (being free of influence, abstaining) empower us and when do they hold us back?
The power of discernment is that we are able to invest energy intentionally, rather than diffusely.
We may feel the inspiration/urge to purify ourselves in some way – to make space so that we can greater be in alignment or greater be in service. Purifying can take the form of letting go of clutter, letting go of our belief/participation in certain thoughts, decreasing/abstaining from addictions, to name a few. Why would these things be important? If we are cluttering our field with unnecessary stimulation and information, we are distracted from ourselves. In fact, this may be comfortable! Operating at 50% may feel safer. When we remove the little habits and patterns that keep us stuck, it’s almost as though life feels more intense and we become more responsible for wielding the energy that we used to be funneling into our holding patterns.
We may clutter/buffer/numb ourselves because we do not yet have the tools or safe environment to really operate at a full capacity. Having psychological tools, working with various practitioners, and having a supportive community are a few examples of what could support the process of clearing energetic clutter.

Sometimes people will analyze Mercury-Neptune as difficulty in communication and things like losing one’s train of thought or scrambling words. This is because Neptune can dissolve what it touches, and Mercury is a planet of communication. However, this is not the only thing that is happening! Losing one’s train of thought is not necessarily a loss. Sometimes this is actually an opening for the conversation to turn in another direction that is more “inspired” (key Neptune word).
Mercury-Neptune also correlates with inspired thinking, or thoughts that are in conversation with the beyond – whether this is our spirit guides, or in a more secular sense, “the muse”. Instead of just thinking or communicating from the personal ego, there is a porousness to receive information from other sources.
Poetry is one kind of articulation that comes from Mercury-Neptune – because Mercury-Neptune ISN’T about communication struggle unless that’s the perspective we bring to it. It is about communication that is less boundaried, and more fluid.
This transit can relate to feelings in the body that come from mysterious or energetic sources – at a negative level, this is stress manifesting physically in the body. At a positive level which we can enhance, it’s about what happens to the body when we meditate, visualize, or intentionally circulate energy, or ground with the earth, to name a few.

Do you know that self-criticism is actually a form of inflation? Even if this relates to making the self small or pushing the self down, it is happening at an inordinate degree. Inflation, when it is unconscious, has detrimental effects whether it is positive or negative inflation.
Conscious inflation, however, can be like a vitamin titrated into the system. We might transform our negative self-esteem, for example, by engaging in meditations and visualizations that bring forth the inner God/Goddess within us. We may connect to the power in our bodies by practicing tantra. We might join forces with larger powers when we merge with Source through prayer. We might feel high after doing kundalini yoga or chanting. All of these activities have the ability to inflate us. The question is how we choose to incorporate and integrate this expansion in a beneficial way – something to reflect on. 🙂
Beware of any patterning around being better or worse than others. It creates distortions.

Here’s a simple exercise for transforming your thoughts. Okay but first, why transform your thoughts? The reason is that thoughts are in a fluid relationship with emotions and actions, meaning that we live, act, and feel in relationship to our thoughts. Here’s the exercise: when you are having an anxious, blocked, or otherwise negative feeling moment, write down the thoughts that accompany it. They can be dramatic and seem totally ridiculous or exaggerated on the page, like, “If I share what I’m really thinking everyone will hate me and I’ll lose all my friends.” Then come up with some new thoughts and angles as if you were your own coach. What would someone with a higher, more empowering, or more loving view tell you instead? The more we practice this, the better we get at thinking in ways that empower, rather than disempower.
The truth is, if these thought patterns are just running in the background and resume unexamined, we just stay stuck or disempowered. Giving ourselves new ways of thinking about a situation opens us up to increased psychological flexibility, and we may perceive more options in our lives. We may be able to really powerfully shift our lives from getting clearer about our thoughts & therefore shifting the feelings and actions we align with.
Mars in 13 Virgo trine Saturn in 13 Capricorn: 9:14 PM PDT
This is the masterplan, and the master tasklist and task executor – Mars and Saturn come together harmoniously here as command and will, structure and action, leader and foot soldier. The climb up the mountain (representing our goals/destination) is made all the more accessible because of our identification of the individual action steps that will carry us up.
Likewise, self-sabotaging tendencies and fear of success will collude with the impulse to avoid, procrastinate, or come up with excuses about why we can’t do something.
Mars’ impulsiveness can be tamed with contact to Saturn. At optimal levels, this means that actions are keen, precise, and tend to get the result that was aimed for. Foolish risks are not taken, but calculated risks may be. At an excess, action is so highly restricted and inhibited that the window of time to make the move passes.
Waiting can be an action. The discernment key is whether waiting is coming from a place of fear or wisdom.

Sun in 17 Virgo opposite Neptune in 17 Virgo: 12:24 AM PDT
This transit highlights the subtle responses and dialogues that occur based on our alignment and the frequencies that we are running. We can change our mood, for example, by cleaning and freshening up our space. Most people, regardless of their belief systems, can acknowledge that they feel different emotions in different spaces – a stuffy room has a different vibe than an open and fresh room. See what little shifts or life hacks open up paradise to you. Maybe you feel really expanded in your whole body and spirit when you dance. Maybe kirtan and candlelight before sleeping puts you into another realm. Maybe prayer changes your whole day.
Overwhelm sets in if we feel like we have to do everything or accomplish everything at once. Just keep going with making little changes and attuning to the needs of the moment, and things will get better steadily. 🙂
