From Fanning Flames to Building Gardens: Astrology of 2/6 – 2/12

There is a lot of activity happening this week at the 29th degree of Aries. The signs make up 30 degrees total each and the 29th or last degree is called the anoretic degree – it is a degree of critical importance where the fullness of an energy of a sign culminates and becomes ready to transition over to the next sign.

If we think about the movement from Aries into Taurus, we are moving from a place of impulsive, moment-to-moment discovery and the desire for absolute freedom in Aries to a place of embodying and cultivating what it is that we value in Taurus. These are values which we have now discovered through the subjective and random experiences we were compelled to have through Aries. Wherever we have been creating fires that burn up everything in sight quickly, we become more interested in creating gardens that yield harvest season after season.

One way this transition can manifest is anger (and many of our transits last week and this emphasize that). But it is an anger that, if we think about it, is more clearly telling us that something that we value is not being honored – and at the deepest level it is ourselves who is not honoring it – and we become inspired to fight for or protect what it is that we value.

As we move into a more Taurean state of consciousness however, as Mars and Uranus are to enter Taurus (Mars on Valentine’s Day, and Uranus on March 6), we will discover that slow and steady cultivation create lasting results. We are able to plant seeds in our own gardens and create an abundant harvest of our own for ourselves with enough to share.

Allow the heat and activation of these 29 degree Aries placements to show you what you value and want to to cultivate further. The heat doesn’t need to knock you off-center or create outbursts that you’d later regret. The heat is like a provocative messenger.

The way that I’ve personally come to connect and experience 29 degree placements is that they are very Piscean and are like walking dreams. Sometimes our life experiences reveal themselves as incredibly symbolic, full of messages that we can just see, and which stir our spirits. It was a paradigm shift for me when a friend of mine told me she views all the things that happen in her waking life as dream symbols – such as when she is in a rush somewhere and she keeps getting red lights in traffic, she asks what it is in her subconscious that is in resistance with her conscious will to get somewhere fast.

I’d invite you to try on this perspective this week – what does the symbolism of your life and even its mundane appearances teach you? If you’re feeling heat, why? What’s a deeper level of meaning or what kind of cultivation is it an impetus for?

Here’s our week:

February 7, 2019

Sun in 18 Aquarius sextile Jupiter in 18 Sagittarius: 5:32 PM PDT

(Image: Beeple)

  • Winter (current for those of us in the northern hemisphere) is a season of shadow work, incubation and dreamtime. The Sun is conjunct Black Moon Lilith during this alignment, and both Aquarius and Sagittarius are archetypes that have to do with persecution and alienation for being different or going against the grain of one’s culture or tribe. All of us received cultural conditioning and messages from our families and our peers growing up. When there was a dissonance between our core selves and what was acceptable, often times we suppressed those parts of ourselves to belong. Many of us are working with ancestral lineages of this kind of suppression as well. This easeful, harmonic transit between the Sun and Jupiter opens up a window where there is a lot of ease in reclaiming or rediscovering these aspects of ourselves.

  • This transit also highlights the magic that happens when we gather in groups – especially groups where we feel freedom to be ourselves and to interact with likeminded people.

Mercury in 25 Aquarius sextile Mars in 25 Aries: 6:24 PM PDT

  • Last week’s Mars-Pluto square (which is still in orb) brought to the surface hidden or background frustrations and many of us felt irritated, impatient and angry. Mercury harmonizing with Mars can work as a go-between here where we may find ourselves accessing more insight on the situation, as well as ways to communicate and build bridges to others wherever our frustrations involve other people or group dynamics.

  • We may also feel encouraged to slough off heavy, tired, or victim-mindset attitudes and enter into a space of “just do it” around improving a situation or taking a necessary first step.

  • We may also realize ways that our anger or frustration of late is symbolic for larger themes (and not just the trigger), and Mercury in Aquarius harmonizing with Mars can be an opportunity to generate inventive, progressive thinking when it comes to changing a dynamic that has reached a critical impasse.

  • We also want to become more intelligent, with this transit, around priorities – like addressing a source of a situation rather than always putting out fires. Addressing the source can necessarily be a paradigm shift – like harmonizing one’s nervous system or hormones and seeing how much life changes from that alone.

Mercury in 29 Aquarius sextile Uranus in 29 Aries: 3:53 PM PDT

  • There’s a pattern this week, with Sun and Mercury in Aquarius harmonizing with planets in fire signs – we have the energetic of air fanning the flames, of ideas that activate us, of the capacity for enthusiasm to be magnified as we communicate with others who fan the same flames that we do.

  • Mercury is harmonizing with its higher octave, Uranus, which connects the faculties of the logical, deductive, rational mind (or the part of our mind that classifies and names things), with a non-linear, outside of time, electric faculty of mind that has revelations and epiphanies. There can be an influx of heightened ideas in circulation, within our own consciousness as well as in conversations and media.

Mercury enters Pisces: 3:51 AM PDT

Mercury entering a water sign brings some coolness and emotionality to our sky which is currently dominated by earth and fire.

  • Mercury in Pisces can help us sense our environment and thoughts impressionistically, or cinematically, or poetically. We can sense overarching emotional themes and imprints. We see less separation – the undertones or feeling tones of a situation seem more apparent. The veil is thinner as we perceive things, and psychic perception is more readily accessible.

  • The discernment of Mercury in Pisces relates to our relationship to trusting our senses and subtle intuitions versus how we doubt these softer flows of information. Developing our intuition or conversing with Piscean themes often requires we have some relationship to mental openness (not placing hard rules on where info or knowledge can come from) as well as some level of detachment as to not get possessed or inflated by our visions. We have to discern how much to attach to visions though, if we are to materialize them into reality such as by acting on a dream or inspiration.

  • Ideas circulating in higher frequency while Mercury is in Pisces may be compassion, forgiveness, service, and unconditional love.

Mars in 29 Aries conjunct Uranus in 29 Aries: 11:21 PM PDT

  • We may experience breakthroughs in self-assertion. What can this mean? Putting yourself out there in a way you were previously afraid to. Choosing to let yourself make some waves where you’re normally overly demure or understated. Bringing more of yourself into the equation than you were before. Having revelations because you’re taking action and you’re just doing the thing already!

  • We are likely to feel less inhibited, more impulsive, and to feel a greater sense of urgency at this time. Use this boost to be courageous in the ways that you are needing. But don’t let your sense of balance, tact, or harmonizing with reality go completely into shadow, either.

Thank you for meditating on the planets with me this week! I really appreciate you being here with me as I know that if you connect to this writing we have likemindedness and that is so special.
