Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn: Astrology of 7/10 – 7/16

Eclipses are times of exits and entrances – energies are “leaving” through the south node of the Moon and “entering” through the north node of the Moon. Think of a karmic wormhole that we’re passing through – what realities might we be leaving behind and what realities are we entering into?

On the south node of the Moon during this eclipse we have Saturn, Pluto and the Moon in Capricorn – suggesting we are letting go of ego identification with struggle and hardship – those places we might have accepted will always be cold and dark and foreboding. Those traumatic “never” and “always” statements in our consciousness like “I’m always disappointed” or “I never will find partnership.”

It’s not that these self-undoing thoughts go away this season – it’s that we might become more lucid in recognizing them and detaching ourselves from them, instead of believing them by default. We could benefit from taking care to not attach onto the fear-based programming we have. Decisions we make to compensate for the fear can still be detrimentally tangled with that – instead of acting on our fear, we could find our center and tune into a more elevated type of consciousness.

And this is where the Sun and Venus and the north node in Cancer come in. There is an influx of loving, nourishing energy. There is a capacity here to soothe ourselves. Where we carry fear may be connected to parts of ourselves that have felt orphaned in some way, parts of ourselves that did not receive what we needed. Re-parenting is a strong theme with this eclipse because of the nodes in parental/developmental signs Cancer and Capricorn. (Worth some research! @the.holistic.psychologist on Instagram has a lot of great content.)

The Sun and Venus in Cancer here are like giving ourselves a big hug instead of shaming ourselves. It could be the process of finding our way into fun and feeling loved, instead of dwelling in gloominess and waiting for something else to help us.

Also worthy of noting – the desire to grab onto and become dependent on things that make us feel good is likely heightened. We may want to balance this with a more holistic perspective of how we connect with nourishment, so that we don’t feel as though we become suddenly dependent on someone or something. That melty, swooning feeling of being able to relax and feel cozy and held? Amazing! But find many portals into that feeling & connect with your resourcefulness in getting to that place.

When we become dependent on someone/something we project our own ability to take care of ourselves onto whom/that which we are dependent on, and can de-mature ourselves in the process. Re-parenting here could be the process of addressing needs and feelings that come up and coming up with reasonable, loving ways of taking care of ourselves, which can of course include reaching out for the help and assistance that we need. It’s never about going it alone – but it is about helping lift ourselves up and connecting to the strong anchor within us that has our best interest at heart.

Sun in 18 Cancer trine Neptune in 18 Pisces: 9:31 PM PDT

The Sun is conjunct the north node of the Moon, and Neptune harmonizes with the nodal axis as well (sextiling the south node, and trine the north node). In other words…

  • Feelings can be rushing in to moisten spaces (in the psyche, interpersonally, etc.) that have become dry and brittle. We might begin with an acknowledgement of numbness and a yearning to feel something, perhaps an emotion that we used to have greater access to.

  • Tangible circumstances which would give us permission to feel a desired way may not be available, so the feeling may need to be accessed through visualization or fantasy first. We are heavily conditioned to feel things based on what we perceive to be actually happening, but the Sun trining Neptune here is an invitation to feel into the intangible, unseen realm – those things which have not yet appeared in our reality, but in that we can think of them, they are real on some level. Have you noticed what getting lost in a reverie or daydream can do for you? Eventually we can take inspiration from dreams to make choices that anchor these dreams into tangible reality, but one of the first steps is allowing ourselves to feel what we wish to call in.

Mars in 6 Leo square Uranus in 6 Taurus: 11:01 AM PDT

  • At this time the ways that we are extending ourselves outwardly is in a dynamic confrontation with our inner sense of worthiness. As a heightened expression of Uranus in Taurus, we are innovating and revolutionizing our connection to ourselves, our temple. This dynamic is yin, and magnetic, in nature. The love we have for ourselves becomes an aura that draws energy and attention inward. Now with Mars in Leo in the picture, we can be challenged to present ourselves more. This can range from things like sharing our talents and creativity with others, to being vulnerable and expressive of the heart, to being flashy or extra. 😉

  • There is also the possibility that if we are tuned into an inherent sense of lack or unworthiness in a certain regard, validation or affirmation will seem like something to “get” in order to fulfill that basic sense of lack. At a different octave, tuned into a basic sense of worthiness and abundance, the way that we offer the invitation out to give or receive attention might be something more like the attraction that flowers have for bees.

  • There may be some areas of life which we are already pretty confident being in the limelight, and other areas where we are much more shy – just an invitation to tune into where these differences arise.

  • We can be mindful of the reflections that we get from others as we allow ourselves to be more visible. See if there is spaciousness here for surprise – if we put ourselves out there in a new way, might we not receive a new response from reality as well? We can always interpret things in our environment in such a way as to reinforce our own subjective perspective. Or, signals from our environment can just as well take us out of the box of our preconceived expectations, the moreso that we allow it.

Sun in 21 Cancer opposite Pluto in 21 Capricorn: 7:51 AM PDT

  • Okay – not to be dramatic – but there can be certain ways that we feel as though we are dying! Depending on our attachment to whatever it is that is falling away, this process can be painful or deeply healing. Death is part of the life cycle, and death is part of what makes space for new life and fertile growth and creativity. And whether we intellectually align with that logic or not, the death process still opens up a lot of uncertainty and insecurity, like the ground is dropping below us.

  • We may be balancing our attitudes toward life and death, discovering ways we may need to be more life-affirming or respectful of death.

  • In relationship to the goals that hold our most investment or priority (Pluto in Capricorn), we may find ourselves in touch with holistic visions for how to nest those intentions into reality (Sun in Cancer), such as realizing that a healthy work-life balance or having a more authentic persona at work actually enhances the work – that soft approaches to the goal process give us more leverage than just narrowly pursuing a goal by means which do not have holistic value.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in 24 Capricorn: 2:38 PM PDT

(Image: “A Healing Response to the Rigid Defense” from Light Emerging: The Journey of Personal Healing by Barbara Ann Brennan)

Tune into a recent episode of the Magic of the Spheres podcast about eclipses! In addition to some of the themes of this eclipse mentioned at the top of this forecast, some things to think about:

  • Eclipses can constellate an energy of bringing our fears and anxieties to the surface. This can occur where a situation triggers us and there is a gap between what is actually happening and what we fear is happening – and when we become lucid about this gap, there is a powerful opportunity to witness and shed the fear.

  • Some of the heavier energies that we can be letting go of at this time have to do with a fear around being judged, guilt, internalized judgement, receiving harsh retribution for our mistakes, and even the identification of something being “wrong” or a mistake. Potentially replacing these fears is an influx of tenderness and softness… the grace of a hot bath with herbs and candles for someone previously weary, tired, and cold.

Venus in 16 Cancer opposite Saturn in 16 Capricorn: 10:34 PM PDT

  • Themes about relationship difficulties can arise along with value being in placed in finding collaborative solutions.

  • The parental dynamics of taking care of others or being taken care of may be more prevalent. Do we notice we find ease in one role more than the other? In less polarized configurations, we may be collaborating with others to build something or address a challenge together in a way that feels developmental, like we’re learning new skills or gaining more confidence.

  • Neptune is aspecting both Venus and Saturn – we may be changing or broadening our concepts of what realistic expectations are. There is room for imagination, but especially imagination that is in conversation with the boundaries and parameters that may be at play. Not all problems are just problems – some are springboards into creative reimagining of what could be possible.
