The Saturn-Jupiter Conjunction in Aquarius 2020

An interruption to normal programming!

I sat down to write the forecast for December 2-8, 2020, noticing that there was only one alignment for me to write about this week within my normal criteria for forecasting. It was Venus in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces. I decided to take this week as an opportunity instead to write about the upcoming great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius (December 21, 2020) so you have a little more time in advance to think about this pivotal event!

Welcome back! Or in case this is your first time here, I’m Sabrina Monarch and I’m a soul-centered astrologer. I love providing perspectives on the opportunities of transits and putting into words what the zeitgeist feels like at this moment in time, to support you on your path & open a dialogue between us and the cosmos. If you would like to receive these weekly forecasts to your inbox and be notified of upcoming educational opportunities, sign up for my mailing list here.

I recommend watching the video version of this special forecast on YouTube, because I added quite a bit of commentary while recording. But you can also read below!

The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in 0 degrees of Aquarius: December 21, 2020 10:20 AM PST

  • The last Jupiter-Saturn conjunction occurred in Taurus, in late May of 2000.
  • Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions happen around once every 20 years.
  • Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions stay in the same element (water, earth, etc.) for around 200 years. Toward the end of a 200 year cycle, the conjunction may dip into the new element and back before making the final shift for 200 years. For example, Jupiter and Saturn formed their conjunctions in earth signs for around 200 years, but then were conjunct in Libra (an air sign) in 1981, and back to earth (Taurus) in 2000. Now however, on December 21, 2020, Jupiter and Saturn will meet every ~20 years in air signs, for the next ~200 years.
  • The significance of this as it plays out in world trends requires some reflection on historical trends over larger swathes of time. This article from ISAR is helpful for that! https://isarastrology.org/raymond-merriman-the-great-mutation-and-the-start-of-a-new-era-jupiter-and-saturn/

As someone who thinks a lot more about the personal life of individuals, personal psychology, personal development, etc. speaking of trends in 200-year segments of history is a little bit out of my lane, while I recognize it is also a significant component of the transit. So beyond pointing you to your own research (for the cultural historians among us)… I wanted to reflect on the question of what does this conjunction – one that represents a new social era – mean in the realm of the personal life.

If this great conjunction in Aquarius may relate to new ideas and new technologies which change the status quo (and we speculate what inventions, like the Internet, will sweep over the globe and change the whole game), what is this in the life of an individual?

“In shamanism, we say that a person who lived a good life was a good dreamer, meaning they created a lot of options for themselves.” – Shaman Durek

Personal experiences with the technology of mindset and ‘changing one’s mind’

One of my greatest pleasures and sources of true excitement in this incarnation has been learning how to alter my beliefs, perception, and mindset to experience a different reality. The spiritual teaching that everything we experience here in physical form is actually a manifestation of past thoughts and feelings sent an irrevocable ripple through my world. Buildings were blueprints before they were constructed, and before the blueprint the idea or the feeling in the architect. Social trends, which become conventions and embedded parts of our life, were once based on ideas. Even the very physical chemical currents that run through our bodies (adrenaline, cortisol, endorphins, etc.) can be sparked into existence with thoughts and feelings. It is not that these physical objects (buildings, social institutions, chemicals) do not have consequences or impact of their own… just the idea that they did not necessarily come first, that they are not necessarily primary, but that they were born of less dense material, that is, thought and feeling.

My mind put up very little, if any, resistance to this concept. Though I found that not everyone I spoke to about it was amenable to it. My lack of resistance to this concept gave me the freedom to experiment with reality itself. Instead of believing my circumstances and the material conditions of my life at face value, I believed that I could have some hand in shaping the conditions of my life if I made of a practice of aligning with the ideas that would be most fertile to the realities I wished to experience.

Years deep into the practice of manifestation as a way of life, I’ve learned that deconstructing mental concepts and building new ones is work. One of my first ‘projects’ in the realm of manifestation was to raise my baseline mood. I observed myself carefully. When I found myself dipping into depressive states, I would discover some way to be happier – whether I had to act/pretend, move my body in a certain way, or get out on a walk. In my inner vision, I could see tired, worn out neural pathways in my consciousness that been paved out via years being depressed about certain things <before> I learned I had some power in changing my own mind. I stopped believing my depressed moods, and just saw myself falling into those worn out tracks. By inventing new pathways every time I began to dip, I built myself ladders in a bunch of different hidden recesses and ruts of my mind.

At the time I did this, I did not think that my external reality really reflected my desires for life – there was so much internally that I wanted to be external. I made a practice of not identifying with my present reality so intensely and identifying with vision and fantasy instead. I found physical anchors in my life to connect with – tea and the way it looked while it was steaming, my housemates’ cats, walks in the woods, etc – and really reinforced in my mind how beautiful these things were and how enchanted my life was. I believed that the more that I did this, the more my external life would grow abundant with images and experiences that reinforced my desire for a rich and meaningful life.

This was how I first learned to let fantasy and intention lead more than my concrete, present circumstances. This <requires> a sufficient amount of detachment. And it opens up the question of how to relate to what is, as to not become completely out of touch.

The technology of mind and vision

Aquarius relates to liberation. It is like an electric current. Working with the magic that Aquarius has to offer is a matter of becoming like a finely tuned radio – how do you become receptive to ideas? And how do certain ideas land in your body? With fine tuning (perhaps an excellence that Saturn represents, here in Aquarius), we can feel the musicality of ideas. Do they feel like a heavy pit in our stomach? Do they send chills up our spine, or a rolling tingling sensation in the back of our head?

One of the ways that the channel becomes clear enough to be this sensitive is through the act of unravelling and dis-identifying. What is radio silence like? What does it feel like to identify your own thoughts and the material circumstances around you but to know that you are not any of those things? I am not my job, I am not my house, I am not this interpersonal drama I have with my friend, I am not this power couple, I am not this, I am not that. Neti neti. Snowy silence.

Rather than completely dissolving the self into nothingness, nihilism, etc… this activity of mental purification simply unbinds us from rigid egoic attachment to things – or at least shows us how deeply possessive we are of these things. In a meditation where you go into clear your mind, and just watch your thoughts float by like a river… how often do you forget you are meditating, and jump into that river and get lost in a thought or fantasy, instead of just watching it go by?

When we take the time to dis-identify, we enter an expansive field of consciousness where pure possibility exists. We’re not alive in this incarnation to not be human, and to not be here. However, what would it be like to ride the most electric and true currents that run through us? There is a difference between trying to be something, and just being. Stilling the mind and detaching is one opening point for feeling more intently the quality of our ideas and concepts. What’s the deepest truth in you below all those layers, once you’ve been able to dis-identify enough with them to let them go?

Committing to Excitement and Aliveness

Imagine having your radio tuned this finely that you were able to work with it to make certain decisions in life. Committing to a life of excitement and aliveness need not be some irresponsible, lofty, disastrous thing, leaving chaos in its wake. Knowing what turns us on and what sparks aliveness in us and having ways to align our actions and life direction with that high electric current of energy is a way to be in touch with the life force that moves through us.

Living a life of excitement and truth is not something that happens in one decision, one magic epiphany. It is a sequence of unravelling, of realization, and of cultivating a relationship with life-force and the energetic currents that underly everything.

The Saturn-Jupiter era ahead may relate to learning spiritual and mental technologies that create more freedom and liberation in our experience. While these ideas can be expansive – “live your truth! Live your highest excitement!” – the work of actually doing that, and practically/sustainably so, is intricate and a form of mastery.

Some people have written books or made documentaries based on experiences they had aligning to a particular value for a certain amount of time. What would happen if you committed to a particular frequency? You may notice that while the frequency you choose is expansive (i.e. 100 days of Eros, 100 days of Bliss, 100 days of Magic…), you will encounter obstacles (Saturn) and you’ll notice that it takes discipline and devotion (also Saturn) to remain in the container that you’ve chosen. Are you committed to building this channel, this radio tower, and what will you learn along the way?

Level Two Training for Alumni!

Introducing a new program for alumni of the Evolutionary Astrology Intensive (a level two training)! METEORITE is an Astrological Embodiment Accelerator, a deep nine-month dive into building skill and voice as astrologers. Expanding on what we’ve already learned in the intensive, we will practice our interpretive and delineation skills, continue to explore the transpersonal mysteries of the outer planets, work with the material of our own charts and transits, and create something (a work of astrological scholarship or art) by the end of the nine months to share with everyone. Call it an initiation.

Astrology has always been so fun and magical to me but also something I see as worth being dedicated about, which means training! There are many hours that go into studying, practicing, and then there are also the attunements of how to live astrologically (how to track the transits, how to evolve your expression of your natal placements in daily life, discovering learning opportunities everywhere like getting in the habit of looking up the natal charts of actors when you watch films, etc.) – so let’s develop skill and interpretive acumen in community. This is a space for astrological devotion, and for bringing this practice into earth – i.e. materializing it and making it a reality. Open to alumni, with potential special exceptions to people well-versed in Evolutionary Astrology. Learn more and apply here.
